About
Harper n Hubble is the musical collaboration of
friends Paul Harper (vocals, guitars, bass, primary
songwriter) and Andy Hubble (drums, keyboards, engineering &
production). Their shared history began while serving as music
technology lecturers in the UK. Drawing on a wide palette of
influences—classic rock & pop, smooth jazz textures, and touches of
classical arrangement—the pair focus on rich melodic writing,
thoughtful lyrics, and warm, carefully crafted production.
A frequent creative ally is lyricist John Dietrich, whose
words appear across numerous Harper n Hubble tracks, further deepening
the storytelling dimension of their catalogue.
Member Profiles
Paul Harper
Vocals • Guitars • Bass • Songwriting
Based in Newport, Shropshire (originally Tipton, Black Country),
Paul is the principal songwriter, channelling formative
inspiration from The Beatles into contemporary song craft.
Additional influences include The Eagles, Free, David Bowie, and
Prince.
A former lecturer in Music Technology & Production at Sandwell
College (later continuing at Bournville College), he co-wrote
the rock opera “Winds of Treachery”,
performed at the Edinburgh Fringe and praised by
The Scotsman.
Prior to Harper n Hubble he fronted or performed in bands
including L182 (A Passion) and Cinq Mars. His
mentoring has inspired students such as Amy Faith Morley, who
cites his song “Field of Dreams” as a creative
catalyst.
Together with Andy, he is preparing the duo’s next (sixth)
album slated for 2026, following their productive 2025 run of
releases under Myvod Records: Reflections,
Long Highway Road, Island in the City,
Academic Life and Reel to Reel.
Andy Hubble
Drums • Keyboards • Production • Engineering
Andy is the technical architect of the duo’s
sound—handling drums, keyboards, engineering and
production—while also composing a prolific catalogue for his
instrumental project
Relax Listen (launched 2010 for film/TV placement).
Earlier in his career he performed professionally throughout the
1970s with bands such as Snaps, The Victims,
and The Sunny Richards Band, sharing stages with Thin
Lizzy, Showaddywaddy, The Climax Blues Band, Babe Ruth, and
Trapeze.
Influenced by rock, classical, smooth jazz and electro-pop
colors, he crafts arrangements from his home studio north of
Birmingham, England.
A former Music Technology / Sound Engineering lecturer and
department head at Sandwell College, he met Paul (and lyricist
John Dietrich) there in the mid-1980s. Many early
Relax Listen tracks trace back to this period.
Myvod Records
Following a departure from their previous distributor, Paul and Andy
founded Myvod Records—their own independent
label—gaining full creative and business control over both legacy
catalogue and new works. This autonomy accelerates release cycles and
preserves the intimate, artisanal quality of their productions.
The 2025 schedule alone showcases their momentum, with five major
Harper n Hubble albums confirmed or released, and future projects
already in development.
Creative Collaboration
The synergy between Paul’s melodic and harmonic songwriting
instincts and Andy’s arrangement, rhythmic sensibility, and
engineering expertise gives Harper n Hubble its distinctive voice.
Lyricist John Dietrich’s contributions further refine narrative depth
and thematic cohesion.
Together they pursue a timeless yet modern sound—comfortable beside
classic records while embracing today’s broader sonic palette.
What’s Next
Post-2025, work is underway on their sixth album (2026). Expect
continued genre-spanning arrangements, lyrical storytelling, and
carefully layered production.
John Dietrich — Lyricist
John and Paul have known each other since their school days and began
a song writing partnership while at West Bromwich College, where Paul
introduced John to Andy.
On the majority of their songs the lyrics have been a collaborative
effort between John and Paul (with John often taking the lead) while
Paul has typically composed the music. John also celebrated a very
successful career as a professional photographer—photographing the
likes of Bryan Ferry and Ozzy Osbourne alongside a host of other media
and sporting celebrities.
John’s lyrics are featured on a number of tracks on the albums:
Island in the City, Academic Life and
Reel to Reel.
